The Vision of the House

The Vision of the House
Do you find yourself going around and around… never seeming to get anywhere?
Do you find yourself washed up on different shores bumped around by random chance of tide?
Then it’s time to make a choice.
To change your course, decide where you want to go, who you want to be… then do it.
This month we’re talking about vision. It was vision that motivated Abraham to move from the land of Ur. It was vision that set Samuel on his path as a prophet. It was vision that caused Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekial, Daniel, Amos, Saul and so many others to leave behind their old lives and step out in boldness and faith.
Vision gives us strength. It gives us direction and it gives us purpose. It defines who we are.
In fact, the Bible says,
“Where there is no vision, the people perish…” Pro 29:28
I remember when sitting at my dining table 10 years ago, I had been asked to take over as senior Pastor at JC Family, and Jenny asked “what is your vision?”
I’d been at JC Family for over 1o years and I knew what I wanted it to look like… but a statement of vision? Didn’t sleep much after that. I had a picture, I just hadn’t written it down.
And so I prayed.
And prayed some more.
Our vision at JC Family Church is… to be a large, healthy, vibrant, family church, empowering people and impacting communities for Christ, both locally and globally.
So what does this mean?
Large: To say large is just about numbers isn’t incorrect, it’s just incomplete. Jesus said “Go into all the world and make disciples…”
He didn’t say, “Go get them saved” He said “make disciples”.
Large is about numbers. But it’s also more than numbers. We should be growing numerically. We should also be growing…
“big people, dreaming big dreams, doing big things for God.”
Healthy: We don’t just want a large church, we want a healthy church.
We want people to be healthy – spiritually, physically, financially and emotionally.
John 10:10 says “… I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Vibrant: You know, I think this is so important. We don’t want to have a lifeless, dead service. We want to be full of life, energy and passion.
We don’t want to be people who come to church because they have to, but because they want to.
Family: A place where relationships are fostered, where generations are mentored and released.
Where people are encouraged and valued, and people are loved into being all they can be.
Church: We are not a club, organisation or group.
We are the church of Christ.
We are the called out ones. We are chosen. More than that, we are appointed.
May we never forget that.
Without a vision people perish.
And our vision at JC Family Church is….
To be a large, healthy, vibrant, family church, empowering people and impacting families for Christ, both locally and globally.
