Time to Pray

Time to Pray

Do you sometimes feel that if you just run a little faster you will get what you need? That if you try a little harder, work a little harder, then it will all work out, ‘cause sure, you can manage on your own….

It’s time to step off the wheel.

The problem is this, in our busy culture we have created the thought pattern that says we must do it. We trust in our own ability instead of turning to God and relying on Him and His strength.

It’s time to stop.

It’s time to trust God and His promises.

When we first started working on the eNewsletter, Jen was throwing around the term “comms plan”. And you know what, I had no idea what she was talking about. Until finally, instead of smiling and nodding, I asked… so… what’s a comms plan?

Turns out “comms plan” is just a shortened version of communications plan. A step-by-step, carefully considered, deliberate plan covering the when, what and, how of communicating.

Or in other words, it is a plan to communicate.

You know, I think a healthy prayer life is the ultimate comms plan, in fact it’s the most important comms plan you could ever have!

Prayer is too important to leave to chance, to do only when we have five minutes to spare. Prayer must be a priority. You need to plan for it, schedule it and make it a priority in your life.

When should we pray?

We should pray in the morning – “Now in the morning, haven risen a long time before daylight, He [Jesus] went out and departed to a solitary place and prayed.” Mark 1:35

We should pray in the evening – “Now it came to pass in those days that He [Jesus] went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” Luke 6:12

Jesus prayed in the morning, he prayed in the evening… when should we pray? Anytime.

Where should we pray?

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane – Mark 14: 32-40

He prayed up a mountain – Matt 14:23

He prayed in the wilderness – Luke 5:16

He prayed in the water – Luke 3:21

Jesus prayed anytime, anywhere.

What can we pray about?

Jesus prayed for wisdom to choose His disciples – Luke 6:12-13

He said that prayer would cast out demons – Matt 17:21

He prayed to feed 5000 – Matt 14:19

He prayed when He was baptised – Luke 3:21

He prayed for Himself, His disciples, and for all believers – John 17

He prayed on the cross – Luke 23:34

Jesus prayed laid out a simple pattern for prayer.

Pray anywhere, anytime and for any reason.

In a world filled with stress and struggles, anxiety and depression, being fixated on the future, and never allowing ourselves to slow down, constantly running on empty…

It is time to stop, to get off the wheel, and to trust “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
